Plot Synopsis

Lucas, an aspiring dancer and choreographer, has become haunted by recurring dreams and visions of a beautiful Dancer after the sudden, tragic death of his mother due to a drug overdose. Convinced by grief that the only way forward is to recreate her enchanting ballet, Lucas is soon informed by wealthy and impulsive heiress Elizabeth that he is being threatened with legal action for missing the deadline of her family’s prestigious dance fellowship. He is saved by a chance encounter with former dance fellow Cassandra La Rue when she agrees to dance the lead role while she’s in town. With support from dependable stepbrother Charlie and some inspiration from secretly rebellious college student Amy, Lucas works to bring The Dancer and her ballet to life, only to find himself increasingly distracted by a budding romance with handsome frontman and secret drug addict David Rogers. Amy forms a creative and collaborative friendship with Elizabeth that she hides from her strict immigrant parents as Charlie and Cassandra fall into a semi-casual romance, but everything falls apart during Elizabeth’s New Year’s Eve Party when Lucas discovers the truth about David's drug addiction, the same one that killed his mother.

In Act 2, a devastated Lucas retreats further into fantasy while working to finish the still incomplete ballet before he is evicted. Elizabeth, who has been iced out by her family, has her hands full with Amy, who has run away from home and is crashing on her couch. When Cassandra tells Charlie and Lucas that she is leaving the country, an already unstable Lucas has a breakdown before running into David, who begs forgiveness but is rebuffed. Charlie and Elizabeth eventually hatch a plan to take over her family’s fellowship program so she can support Lucas and help Amy make peace with her parents, but Lucas tears up his invitation to the launch event and decides to try one last time to finish the dance. David, who is now working with Elizabeth to remain sober, is sent to find him when he doesn’t show. Charlie and Cassandra reconcile and the event is a triumph, but Lucas finds himself on the roof of his apartment, abandoned by The Dancer and contemplating suicide. Just before he tries, David reaches him and explains how Lucas’ love made him want to become a better man. As the two embrace, the Dancer returns, and guides them through a beautiful dance, the final part of the ballet, before disappearing forever. A brief prologue reveals that everyone is feeling hopeful about the future as they reunite for the premiere of the now completed ballet.
